Ms. Pacelli, grade 1 teacher at Clemente School, was given a traditional Afghan dress by her student, Marwa. Marwa is teaching her classmates about her Afghani culture.
Eli Sabin , former alderman for Ward 7 and current Democratic nominee for Connecticut state representative, visited Mauro Sheridan School. In Mrs. Bitterman's and Ms. Davis' grade 5 classes, he addressed the monthly theme, Respect, and particularly the importance of listening and behavior to successful education. He also talked about the roles of local and state governments.

Some Fridays it’s keys, saxophone, drums, or electric oboe. Other Fridays, like this one, it’s acoustic guitar.
Mr. Nelken generously shares his musical talents each week, turning Friday dismissal into a shared moment of joy and connection.
Music matters. And so do the many talents educators bring to Metro and to schools throughout the NHPS family. These gifts strengthen our school communities and help make them places where students and staff feel connected and belong.

Obama School hosted an announcement by the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities about a new teacher residency program intended to strengthen the training of new teachers and improve the flow of talent into our public schools. The event highlighted the educational benefits of Obama School's ongoing relationship with Southern Connecticut State University.

NBC Connecticut reporter Jennifer Cuevas visited Mauro Sheridan School this morning to prepare a story on uses of technology in the classroom. Ms. Cuevas interviewed Assistant Superintendent Keisha Redd-Hannans, Principal Sandy Kaliszewski, and ELA teacher Amber Swensen. She also visited Ms. Swensen's fourth grade class!

Students and staff at Worthington Hooker School welcomed Yale Folklorico to the schoolwide Hispanic Heritage Celebration Friday.
During our September Professional Learning day, New Haven Public Schools Social Studies teachers had the opportunity to hear from several of our community partners, including the New Haven Museum, Lost in New Haven, the The Connecticut Democracy Center, Yale University, and others about the resources and experiences available to our students and teachers.
These partnerships help us connect social studies learning beyond the classroom through authentic, place-based experiences that allow students to engage with history, civics, and their own community in meaningful ways.
The Social Studies department will continue to leverage these relationships throughout the year to create more opportunities for New Haven students to investigate their community, engage with local resources, and experience social studies in action.

The Rev. Kevin C. Hardy, pastor of St. Matthew Church in New Haven, visited Mauro- Sheridan School in honor of our monthly theme, Respect. He read to Mrs. Tong's grade 2 class and visited other classes as well. Pastor Hardy retired after more than 30 years as an educator in the West Haven school system!
