Wilbur Cross High School sophomore Daniela “Dani” McTiernan Huge will be the next student representative on the Board of Education, winning a race to fill a seat soon to be vacated by graduating High School in the Community senior Jonaily Colon.
45 percent of NHPS high school students cast votes in the four-candidate election--by far the largest turnout in recent years.
McTiernan Huge won with 853 votes. Metropolitan Business Academy's Michael Mapuvire earned 596 votes; Hillhouse's Yoselit Ortiz won 593, and Co-Op's Jale Phillips took 432.
The new student representative will join the Board at its first meeting in July.
