The mission of the NHPS World Language Department is to promote cultural awareness, to provide students with linguistic skills in more than one language and to prepare students to grow and succeed within their own and other global communities.
Most students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to study world languages in NHPS and some begin as early as kindergarten. Depending on the school, our students learn Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Latin or Spanish. Knowing another language expands students’ career possibilities, increases their cross-cultural understanding, and improves their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in their native language. It prepares them for life in the 21st Century.
In the past five years, we have revised all of our curricula, grades Prek-12, to contain thematic units focused on building students' proficiency in using the language in the real-world. On each of the level pages to the left (will there be pages on the left the same as this?), you can read a summary of the units in that level. Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, and Spanish use the same curriculum units. Latin curriculum is listed separately.
