2020 was a challenging year to say the least. Yet, out of all the turmoil, disjointedness and loss, New Haven Public Schools has grown closer and pushed forward. To represent this camaraderie and surge into the future, we present the district SEL Team’s “Growing Together into the Future” initiative. With the support of URI, our goal is to plant a tree at each of our buildings to commemorate the strength and resolve NHPS showed this year. At this time, we are looking for a point person at each building that can help move this work forward with our team. Responsibilities include finding a location for the plot, planting, watering, and working with our team. We are targeting June-September as the rollout for our “Growing Together into the Future” initiative.
We know that some schools have already planted trees on their campus for Staff Appreciation and Graduation through URI. We are happy to plant another tree if you desire one. Alternatively, we are proposing the creation of an encouragement rock garden (see examples below) to memorialize all we achieved in an extremely challenging year.
