Requirements for Graduation

Here at Wilbur Cross High School twenty-four (24) credits are required of students for graduation. Credit is granted for successful completion of any course, in grades nine (9) through twelve (12).

Required credits are:

**One required course must be elected from the following:

Fine Arts (Music, Art, Drama)
Unified Arts (Technology Education)
Family and Consumer Science Technology, Business Technology

All grade 9 and 10 students must take seven credits per year. Your grade status will be determined by the number of credits you have to date.

Each marking period will count toward your FInal grade in that course. Remember that you are not given a grade by your teacher, you earn the grade by the quality of your work. Excessive absences will result in loss of credit. Scholastic achievement grades are based upon the following standards.

MARKING SYSTEM

**Students receiving an "Incomplete" have two weeks to complete required work for that course before the "incomplete" is changed to an "F" (no credit).

Honors For The Year

Honors for the year are determined by the student's quality point average and academic achievement. To qualify for honors for the year, a student must not receive a grade below B- in any marking period. The student must have been on the Academic Achievement list for three of the four marking periods. It should be noted that in order to be considered for Honors for the Year, a student must have carried the equivalent of six subjects for the entire academic year.

Rank

Cumulative rank in class is determined at the end of Grade 11. Weighted quality points, according to course level of difficulty, are given to all courses except physical education. In addition, all students may elect two non-required courses during their enrollment in grades 10 through 12, which will have no assigned quality points. Approval must be obtained through your counselor by October 1 of each year. No late decisions are permitted. This will allow a student to select courses in business, industrial technology, fine arts, etc. (which have a low quality point level) without affecting their quality point ratio. Students may also select more difficult courses such as calculus, advanced sciences, and third and forth year languages without affecting their quality point ratio.
