NCCEP and SBC Promoting Excellence and Innovation Grants

On February 26, 2004 the SBC Foundation provided the
largest single private contribution made in support of
the GEAR UP Programs.

The UCONN GEAR UP Program received 2 grants to:
Train and assist teachers in the use of technology in the classroom.

Fund technology-based after-school programs to help students in math, science, reading and technology.

The purpose of this GEAR UP activity is to supplement professional development trainings at WCHS in order to encourage and promote best practices by integrating software applications and computers into teaching methodologies.

This funding will provide teachers with on-going high quality staff development as well as direct support in the classroom without removing them from school mandated staff development.

GOAL: To increase teacher’s capacity to incorporate the use of technology into the classroom environment.

Encourage teachers to engage in the educational process and training by providing on-going support and assistance to other teachers.
