“The future of our country is not found in our boardrooms, but in our classrooms.” -- Michael Milken
Classrooms in schoolhouses all across America are creating the future workers and business leaders of the country. As we head more and more toward a knowledge-based global economy, the competence and quality of education in those classrooms may become the leading factor in determining the sustained success of our nation. Without a doubt, New Haven businesses have an inalienable stake in the success of district schools for economic growth through the creation of both a skilled workforce as well as a viable consumer base. Members of the business community are no strangers to the values of competition, innovation or progress, which is why their involvement in New Haven’s school reform initiative is so important.
In June 2009, regional business leaders and members of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce began meeting with Mayor DeStefano and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mayo to discuss education reform and the importance of a system of good public schools for the success of the City and the region as a whole.
