NEW HAVEN –  On Monday, July 13, five 8th grade clarinetists from the John C. Daniels School performed at the annual Higher Order Thinking Conference in Hartford.  Direct by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, the conference is held to promote arts integration in school curriculum.  The clarinet quintet was honored to be invited to the conference and their performance captivated the attention of over 100 audience members.

It is no surprise that the performance was a hit as the individual members of the quintet have quite a bit of experience when it comes to showing off their talent.  The clarinetists, Kevin Lopez, Raymundo Morales, Jocelyn Hernandez, Jesus Cortez, and Angel Sepulveda, all take lessons and perform at Neighborhood Music School. This past year, Lopez and Morales won 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively, in the 2nd Annual Yale/New Haven Solo Competition.

As a whole, John C. Daniels band students achieve quite a lot.  They have performed at over 30 concerts this past academic year and 13 of the students perform at Neighborhood Music School with an additional 15 planning to audition this fall. The John D. Daniels band is proud to add the Higher Order Thinking Conference to their list of accomplishments.
