NEW HAVEN – Over 200 people watched Asia Paige sing herself to a first place win at Truman School's 6th annual Truman Idol competition on Wednesday, June 17 in the school’s gym.
Among the other 20 acts were second place winners Nehemiah and Michael who preformed a drum duet and Clara Perez who sang "Halo". Third place in the competition went to Veronica Zimmerman for singing the gospel song "Because of Who You Are".
Asia, who won second prize in last year's contest sang a song by Alicia Keys. The judges, three Truman teachers, felt that Asia's powerful voice stood out from the other performers. Most of the contestants sang, however, some danced and others played musical instruments. All of them had to audition for a spot in the show three weeks prior to the event and put a lot of effort into preparing and perfecting their acts.
Students, staff, parents and community members came out to enthusiastically support the talented students at Truman School.
