NHPS Celebrates Read Aloud Day

World Read Aloud Day will be celebrated all over the world on February 1, 2018. Every year, on World Read Aloud Day, people all around the globe read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literacy as a human right that belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day calls attention to the fact that 750 million adults around the world, two-thirds of them women, lack basic reading and writing skills.
In schools across New Haven, teachers, librarians, students, school leaders, and community members will be adding their voices to the conversation about the importance of reading and literacy. This year’s theme is “Read Aloud. Change the World.”  New Haven students will have the opportunity to hear books with powerful messages of hope, transformation, and determination as the adults in our community share the book that changed their world.
This day will celebrate all our efforts to ensure that New Haven is the CITY THAT READS.
