MAYOR HARP, SUP’T MAYO TO WELCOME STUDENTS MONDAY FOR FIRST DAY OF NEW SCHOOL YEAR

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp and New Haven Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Reginald Mayo will greet students at the John C. Daniels School first-thing Monday morning and welcome them back to classes for the 2017-18 school year.

Mayor Harp and Dr. Mayo will be joined MONDAY, AUGUST 28 by other community leaders beginning at 8:00 a.m.; the John C. Daniels School is at 569 Congress Avenue in New Haven. Members of the press corps are invited to attend and encouraged to cover this event.

State law requires local school districts to instruct students for 180 days per year. August 31 will mark the second full month Connecticut has been operating without a state budget, limiting the financial means of many local districts and by extension, their ability to do so.
