  • Attendance Matters Campaign: September is attendance awareness month and New Haven Public Schools along with the City of New Haven, parents, community service organizations, clergy, teachers, administrators, school personnel, afterschool program staff, coaches and mentors gathered to launch a citywide attendance engagement campaign “Attendance Matters”. The goal of the campaign is to support families in and out of school stressing the importance of daily attendance with the support of our many community partners in three focus areas: Transportation, Health & Academic Impact.   • Metropolitan Student Engagement Fair: Educators of Metropolitan Business Academy hosted nearly 300 community partners to advertise and recruit students interested in their programs. This fair streamlined the recruitment process and provided students with exposure to meet representatives from over 20 high-quality after-school programs offered within the City of New Haven. The goal of the fair is for each student to participate in at least one after-school program per year. To view Instagram coverage, click here.
  • Scholar Student Ambassador: 11th grade, Christine Akinduro of Metropolitan Business Academy was one of over one hundred young scholar students selected to partake in the 100,000 Strong Foundation’s Student Ambassador Program. The program focuses on the increasing demand for Mandarin language learning and study abroad in China. For more information, click here.
  • Educator Success: United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan named King/ Robinson teacher Matt Presser one of nine teacher advisors for the 2015-16 school year. Now in its eighth year, with the Teaching Ambassador Fellowship Program, created to give outstanding teachers an opportunity to learn about national policy issues in education and to contribute their expertise to those discussions. Presser will work part-time for the United States Department of Education traveling to Washington, D.C., for meetings with top education advisers.
