NHPS Celebrations as of 8/21/15

New Haven Public Schools:

  • Record New Haven Promise Scholars: 253 New Haven graduates received Promise scholarships to push them toward success in college, career, and life. We are proud of the accomplishments of our youth and encourage them to keep rising! To read the story in the New Haven Independent, click here.

  • NHPS Kindergarten Canvass: In a joint effort to ensure New Haven Public School families are prepared to start their kindergartners off right, volunteers fanned out across city neighborhoods for the third annual citywide Kindergarten Canvass, knocking on doors and welcoming families with incoming kindergarten students. New Haven Public Schools, the City of New Haven, and the United Way of Greater New Haven received major support from Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Comcast, and UBS Financial Services Inc. to make this possible. • NHPS Summer Food Program: Another great summer! Breakfast, lunch and supper served at over 70 sites in New Haven and Hamden and with our Food Truck (thanks United Way) and our Food Buses (thanks First Student). Great job by Gail Sharry our Director, Krima Bird leading the action in Central Kitchen, and all the Local 217, 3144, 884 and 287 workers who prepared, delivered, served and managed the effort with a smile!

  • Elm City Believes: CFO, Victor de la Paz encouraged students to enjoy the excitement built up around heading back to school at the Elm City Believes Back to School Rally. Elm City Communities Housing Authority of New Haven, New Haven Fire Dept., New Haven Police Dept, and many other community partners invested to ensure students had fun on inflatable bouncers, meeting Henna the NHPD canine, exploring a fire engine, tossing a ball with NHPS officers or stuffing their bellies with sweet cotton candy and popcorn. The students received free backpacks and supplies for the upcoming school year. To view Instagram coverage, click here.
