New Haven Public Schools Celebrations:
 

  • 2015 NHPS HS Graduation Ceremonies- Since the launch of School Change, New Haven has seen a 17 point increase in graduation rate and we are proud to highlight some of the graduation ceremonies via the district Flickr page,click here. We wish our students success in the next stages of education, career, and life.

 

  • New Haven School Change 2.0 Recommitment Event- Tuesday, June 17th New Haven Public Schools held a community event outside at Sound School this week to roll out the School Change 2.0 goals, priorities, and core values and to celebrate the accomplishments of the first five years of School Change. Students and educators shared stories of success and transformation and community partners engaged in conversation about how to maintain energy and urgency around School Change.   • New Haven Scholarship Fund- Over $2 million worth of scholarship was awarded to graduating seniors and rising juniors throughout New Haven from the New Haven Scholarship Fund on Sunday to support students collegiate endeavors. Contributions come from individuals, corporations, and endowments in the Greater New Haven area and beyond. To access the list of 2014-15 awardees, click here.

 

  • Neubert, Pepe & Monteith Scholarship - On Monday, June 15th, three students - Ms. Ajanae Amos of Hill Regional Career High School, Mr. Forel Kourouma of James Hillhouse High School & Ms. Quiara Outing of Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School - all affiliated with the New Haven based LEAP organization - were awarded a Neubert, Pepe & Monteith Scholarship of $2,500 each for their college studies.   • 2015 Yale English Language Institute Recipients- Four high school English Learners: Maria Emilia Vega and Maria Jose Vega of Wilbur Cross High School and Hasan Arurumi and Jazael Gutierrez of James Hillhouse High School have received scholarships to attend the Yale English Language Institute for the summer of 2015 where they will have the opportunity to meet students from around the world, and visit new and exciting places. On Friday, May 5, 2015, the four recipients along with their teachers and the EL Consultant attended an Orientation Session at Yale where they met with the Director, Meg Palladino. The students learned about the various courses being taught and the electives offered during this six-week intensive language program.

 

  • Latest Community Garden- The students and staff of New Horizons High School have turned an overgrown empty lot into a community garden thanks to the support of multiple community partners and a close bond with Common Ground Schools Garden Resource Center.   • Quinnipiac Graduates- The first class of 4th graders graduated from Quinnipiac on Friday, June 19, 2015. We are so very proud of what they’ve accomplished in their three years with New Haven Public Schools. These students will be moving onto amazing things next year at various schools around the city.
