We would like to proudly announce the beginning of New Haven Public Schools latest resource, Immigrant Children & Youth Program. The purpose of this program is to promote family literacy, parent outreach and create programs that will assist immigrant children and youth to achieve in elementary and secondary schools. As a result on Tuesday, May 12th Fair Haven K-8 School provided us with a prime location to target our intended population for an afterschool multi-cultural music workshop.
Darrell Syria musician and founder of the band Conga Se Menne, whose musical talents have taken him and his band to Canada, Finland and all over the United States, graciously gave of his time to perform many of his personal hits in Finnish Reggae and some American Classics like Hotel California by The Eagles. Additionally, primary focus of this workshop was to promote integration between cultures, Fernando Lara a local musician from Ecuador, also showed his multi-faceted inclination into the music world by playing a couple of salsa and bachata hits while also striking chords to The Beatles and The Eagles, alongside Derrell Syria.
New Haven Public Schools had a strong presence at this workshop, announcing their free activities for all our NHPS families and signed up more than a fourth of our attendees for library cards.
We hope to see you at our next workshop!
