NHPS Connecticut State Science Fair Awardees

Seven science fair projects from New Haven Public Schools among the twenty entered NHPS projects received awards at the Connecticut Science Fair held March 11-14th at Quinnipiac University, which had over 700 students participate from across Connecticut. Many of these NHPS projects will also be part of the 21st city-wide New Haven Science Fair May 11-13th at Yale Commons.
 
-Lauren Low, grade 10 from Engineering, Science and University Magnet School (ESUMS) was a finalist and received special awards for her project: “The Optimization of Conditions for an Enzymatic Bio-Battery"

-Prastik Mohanraj, grade 8 from ESUMS was a finalist and received special awards for his project "Efficiency of Piezoelectric Materials for Electric Production"
Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair Physical Sciences Awards --- Finalist - Physical Sciences 8th Grade - CSF Medallion & Acrylic Award CASE Urban School Challenge Awards with Travelers --- Middle School Finalist - Medallion and Acrylic award IEEE, Connecticut Section --- $100 Honorable Mention
 
-Jake and George Wang, grade 8, from Worthington Hooker School were a finalist for their project: "The Hard Truth About Water Hardness: Which body of water is the healthiest"
Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair Physical Sciences Awards --- 2nd Place- Physical Sciences MS Team- $100 each & trophy, invite to compete Broadcom MASTERS
 
 -Jacob Feurstein, grade 8 from ESUMS received special awards for his project: "Optimizing Methane Oxidation by Methanotrophs Through the Engineering Application of Different Environments"

-Sumant Kondapalli, grade 8 from ESUMS received special awards for his project: "Electric Energy Production In A Bio-fuel Cell For Varying Electrogenic Microbial Samples"
Alexion Biotechnology Awards --- 1st Place- Biotechnology 8th grade- $500 & trophy and Invitation Compete in Broadcom MASTERS CASE Urban School Challenge Awards with Travelers --- 2nd Place Middle School - $200 and Trophy, Medallion United Technologies Corporation Awards --- $500 in UTC Common Stock, Plaque, Backpack, Book, and AnnualReport Environmental/Energy Award-Urban Public School Award --- For the highest scoring environmental protection or alternate energy project by a New Haven Public School student
 
-Aimee Turcotte, grade 8, from Betsy Ross Arts Magnet, received a special award for her project:
"Hand Hygiene Effectiveness in Reducing the Number of Bacterial Colonies"
