Supt. Harries on the passing of former Mayor John Daniels

New Haven Public Schools mourns the loss of a trailblazer and influential leader whose work helped change the course of this city. A graduate of Hillhouse High School, John C. Daniels became the first African American mayor in New Haven in 1990. John Daniels’ impact has long been prestigiously recognized and memorialized by district, particularly in the renaming of a school. Today, the John C. Daniels School family held a moment of silence in his honor and students are reaching out to his family to provide support and words of comfort through  letters of condolence.
The entire NHPS community joins former Mayor Daniels’ family and loved ones in celebrating his life and mourning the loss of an admired  leader. I ask *each* school to join me for a moment of silence in his honor.
