Info for Lincoln-Bassett & MicroSociety parents

Please be advised, only two grades at Lincoln-Bassett School and three grades at MicroSociety Magnet School have been affected by the decision to close under-enrolled classrooms.

School district officials are working with parents of students in the 7th and 8th grades at Lincoln Bassett and the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at MicroSociety School to place their students in new schools.

* Lincoln-Bassett School will remain open, serving students up to and including the 6th grade.

* MicroSociety School will remain open, serving students up to and including the 5th grade.

The following is a statement by Superintendent of Schools Garth Harries regarding the closures:

"I want to be clear that the decision to close under-enrolled middle school classrooms is for both budgetary and educational reasons – middle school grades this small are not educationally appropriate preparation for high school. The move to new schools will give students a richer, more vibrant middle school experience. We are committed to communicating first with parents and working with them to find a school that fits the needs of their child. While I regret the timing of this decision, we are moving as quickly as possible to ensure that all students and parents are confident and excited for the first day of school."
