NURSE PRACTITIONER AT BRENNAN-ROGERS SCHOOL WINS HEALTH CARE HERO AWARD FROM HARTFORD BUSINESS JOURNAL

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Mayo congratulates Jean Zdanys, the longtime nurse practitioner at Brennan-Rogers School, on being named Health Care Hero in nursing by the Hartford Business Journal. Zdanys, who works out of Brennan-Rogers’ school-based health center, has been with the school for 15 years.

The Health Care Heroes award recognizes outstanding leaders in the health care industry who go above and beyond when it comes to helping people and who epitomize the word, “hero.” Zdanys received her award at a special luncheon earlier this month at the Connecticut Convention Center.

“Jean Zdanys is an exceptional nurse who has a passion for helping kids stay healthy, happy and ready to learn at school. Her commitment to the health and wellness of children at Brennan-Rogers is truly admirable,” said Superintendent Mayo. “I congratulate Jean on winning this award and for making a difference in the lives of so many of our children.”

Zdanys is a nurse practitioner with a specialty in pediatrics. Over her 15 years at Brennan-Rogers, Zdanys has seen the school grow and change from a K-5 school to a K-8 Turnaround School. She said some of the faces have changed over time, but she loves the schools “because it feels like family here.”

“I have many different colleagues within my school, at the Health Department, and in the Board of Ed. This gives me opportunities to collaborate, get different perspectives, and work on a variety of projects,” Zdanys said. “My favorite collaboration is with students and families, some of whom I’ve known for my entire tenure here. My face-to-face visits with children are what makes it all worthwhile. It is a real privilege to help them grow up.”
