WILBUR CROSS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, STAFF COLLECT THANKSGIVING FOOD, MONEY FOR NEEDY FAMILIES

Wilbur Cross High School students have collected food and money to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 20 to 25 needy families.

Students today began packing the food items for distribution later this week.

Homerooms competed to see who could collect more food and donations. Students and staff donated more than 1,000 canned items, seven turkeys and about $850. The money and food will used to assist needy families of Wilbur Cross students.

The school is providing the most dinners in the 10 years of its annual Thanksgiving food drive. In addition to the students, teachers and staff donated to the food drive, including three turkeys provided by school security officers.

The Whalley Avenue Stop & Shop, Shop Rite, Big Y and Chabaso Bakery also made donations.

Each basket will contain the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner, including a turkey, bag of potatoes, eggs, milk, butter and pie as well as non-perishable foods to take the family beyond the Thanksgiving holiday.
