NHPS POSTPONES TITLE I DISTRICT-WIDE PARENT ADVISORY MEETING TO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25

The New Haven Public Schools today postponed the annual Title I District-Wide Parent Advisory Council meeting to Tuesday, October 25. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln-Bassett School.

NHPS changed postponed the event because of expected severe weather Wednesday, the original meeting date.

Title I is a federal program that provides disadvantaged students with tutoring and supplemental services in math, reading and sometimes other subjects. The program also offers parenting and life skill workshops for parents, as well as assistance in navigating the public school bureaucracy.

Parents are urged to attend the meeting to learn about the program and the many benefits that parents and students are entitled to. The district will run a raffle as well as provide fun and games for kids.

“I urge parents to attend the Title I organizational meeting,” Title I Parent Liaison Parris Lee said. “They will learn about academic support for their children and other services. This program can improve their child’s grades, better preparing them for high school and beyond.”

Title I is available at 25 city schools. They are: Brennan Rogers; East Rock; Christopher Columbus Academy; Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy; Augusta Troup; Clinton Avenue; John C. Martinez; Celentano; Truman; John C. Daniels; MicroSociety; Fair Haven; Conte West Hills; L. W. Beecher; Lincoln-Bassett; Davis Street; Hill Central; Wexler-Grant; Bishop Woods; Betsy Ross; Ross-Woodward; King-Robinson; Mauro/Sheridan; Strong; and Benjamin Jepson.
