NEW HAVEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS WITH POWER TO OPEN THURSDAY, TEACHERS TO REPORT TOMORROW

New Haven Public Schools will delay the opening of school one day with students starting on Thursday, September 1 at schools with power and teachers at all schools reporting tomorrow for a teachers-only day.

As of Tuesday afternoon, six city schools remained without power: Hillhouse High School, Sound School, New Horizons, MicroSociety School, King-Robinson School and Davis Street School. The district is working with United Illuminating to restore electricity at those schools as soon as possible, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Mayo said.

Kindergarten will begin on Friday. September 2 and pre-kindergarten will start on Tuesday, September 6, both as scheduled.

“Teachers will return to school at all schools tomorrow,” Dr. Mayo said. “Students will begin on Thursday, September 1 at schools with power. We are working closely with United Illuminated and hope that schools without electricity will be back on line by Thursday.”

The district will issue an update regarding schools without power on Thursday.
