NEW HAVEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOOD TRUCK TO HIT THE ROAD WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3

The New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) food truck will hit the road starting Wednesday, August 3, serving free lunch and supper to children 18 and under at three locations.

The trucks will provide free meals through Monday, August 29 at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School, Helene Grant School and MicroSociety School. NHPS Executive Director of Food Services Chef Tim Cipriano said that the district chose those locations because they are underserved.

The NHPS food truck, purchased by the United Way of Greater New Haven and donated to the district, was unveiled this week at a dedication attended by United Way and school officials and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.

“I want to thank United Way for its generosity in donating the money to purchase this food truck,” Cipriano said. “And to thank the Connecticut No Kid Hungry Campaign for helping ensure that no kid goes hungry.”

The food truck will enable NHPS to deliver two free meals every weekday – 1,000 free meals a day – to children living in underserved neighborhoods. Federal funds will pay for the program.

Starting Wednesday, August 3, the truck’s schedule will be:

·         Betsy Ross School, 150 Kimberly Avenue; Lunch: 10:30-11:15 a.m.; Supper: 4-4:45 p.m.;

·         Helene Grant School, 185 Goffe Street; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; Supper: 5-5:45 p.m.;

·         MicroSociety School, 311 Valley Street; Lunch: 12:30-1:15 p.m.; Supper: 6-6:45 p.m.
