HEAD START BUS COMING TO NEW HAVEN NEIGHBORHOODS TO SIGN UP PRE-SCHOOLERS

New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) will send a school bus into city neighborhoods next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to sign up children for pre-school.

Children 3 to 5 years old are eligible for free pre-school through the NHPS Head Start program.

The bus is an effort to reach out to families who may find it difficult to get to the central office and encourage them to enroll their children in the program, said Dr. Tina Mannarino, NHPS’ Early Childhood Programs supervisor.

“We’re going where the kids and parents are,” Mannarino said. “The bus gives parents the opportunity to learn about and sign up their child for pre-school. Head Start does just that – gives pre-schoolers a vital head start on their education.  Pre-school is the first step toward college, the end goal of the district’s School Change reforms.

“I urge New Haven families to get on the bus and enroll their children in Head Start.”

Please see attached for a full schedule of the bus’ days, times and locations.

Parents also may sign up their child for Head Start at the registration office on the first floor of the Gateway center at 43 Meadow Street, New Haven.
