NEW HORIZONS HOLDS FIRST-EVER GRADAUTION CEREMONY

New Horizons today held its first-ever graduation ceremony, awarding high school diplomas to 14 students, more triple the number who graduated last year.

New Horizons is an alternative school for at risk youth.

Until this year, New Horizon students have returned to their high schools of origin for graduation. Principal Maureen Bransfield introduced a graduation ceremony as part of her mandate from the district to make New Horizons a more typical high school.

“These students deserve recognition for their hard work and perseverance,” Bransfield said. “Our graduates have overcome big obstacles. They are thrilled to have a graduation of their own. I want them to celebrate their accomplishment at their own event. I am very proud of New Horizon’s students and staff.”

As part of the graduation ceremony, teachers read testimonials on each graduate. Students also spoke about their experiences.
