NEW HAVEN SCHOOL MARCHING BANDS WIN TOP THREE MIDDLE SCHOOL PRIZES AT CITY ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

New Haven marching bands swept the top three middle school band prizes awarded by organizers of last weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School band, directed by Matt Fried, won first prize. Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy’s band, directed by Donna Johnson, walked away with second place, while Augusta Lewis Troup School, directed by Andrew Maust, came in third.

James Hillhouse High School’s Jr. ROTC and Honor Security Guard won third prize in the Junior Best Appearance Military Group.

The groups will receive trophies at a dinner later this spring. Each will receive a small stipend to support their program.

“I congratulate the winning groups and their directors,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Mayo said. “Their victory is proof of students’ and staff’s hard work and dedication. I’m proud that our kids won these honors.”
