EDGEWOOD KIDS HOLD CTM PEP RALLY

Edgewood School today held a Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) pep rally that included inspiration speeches from James Hillhouse High School scholar-athletes, dancing and a CMT door-decorating contest.

The event is to motivate kids to excel at the CMTs that begin Monday.

The school’s 3rd-to-8th graders decorated the doors of 12 classrooms with inspirational messages exhorting students to score high on the CMTs. The Hillhouse scholar-athletes chose the most inspiring door.

“Pep rallies are for academics as well as athletics,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Mayo said. “I’m pleased to see Edgewood and other schools holding rallies to get kids psyched up for the CMTs. I want kids excited about the CMTs as well as the football or basketball game.

“These kids did a fantastic job decorating CMT-themed doors. Success on the CMTs opens doors to college and a bright future.”

Edgewood is a magnet school serving about 450 kids from kindergarten to 8th grade.
