LONG TIME HILLHOUSE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO RETIRE THIS YEAR
 
NEW HAVEN – Dr. Lonnie Garris Jr., principal of James Hillhouse Comprehensive High School for the past 20 years will be retiring at the end of this school year.  His retirement celebration will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 5p.m. to 9:30p.m. at Woodwinds, located at 29 Schoolground Road in Branford, CT.  The cost is $45 per person (gift included) and there will be buffet style food as well as a cash bar.  There will also be entertainment by top notch ensemble DJ Hollywood and Diamond D.
Garris has been in the New Haven Public School system for over 40 years.  He held various positions within the district including city-wide department head, assistant principal, and principal of James Hillhouse High School.  During his time with NHPS, he received many prestigious awards and is being presented with the NAACP Susan Lincoln Education Award on May 1st.  Garris also received a Founders Day Celebration Award from the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and the New Haven Public School Foundation Alumni Legacy Award this year.
