Ferdinand L. Risco, Jr. was appointed to the Board by Mayor John DeStefano Jr. in September 2009. He is an Inclusion and Diversity Manager with Metro North Railroad, where he has worked since 2004. Previously, he worked in managerial positions at both Pepsi-Cola Bottling Group and Airborne Express. He served in the U.S. Army as an enlisted reservist (1990-95) and as a commissioned officer on active duty from 1995 to 2000.
 
Mr. Risco was appointed to the Connecticut State Board of Education by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in February 2011 and serves on the Legislation and Bylaws Committee. He also serves on the Board of Director of the National Association of State Boards of Education and was a Presidential appointment to the Finance and Audit committee of the association. In the community he works with the Boy Scouts of America - Connecticut Yankee Council as the Lighthouse District, Executive District Vice Chairmen, and is affiliated with the NAACP, the Urban Prosperity Fund and the National Urban League. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration.
 
Mr. Risco’s term expires in September 2013.
