Finding Marc Records from Library of Congress

Before you begin, I would suggest that you set up a MARC Record folder on the desktop

  1. Select Online Catalog http://catalog.loc.gov/
  2. Select Basic Search
  3. Under search type, select LCCN/ISBN number and scan (or type in) ISBN
  4. Find item and double with information on book
  5. On bottom right hand corner radio MARC records
  6. Click Print or Save Search (Long row of numbers comes up
  7. Control A
  8. Right click – copy
  9. In program file, select Notepad
  10. Open a document, right click – paste
  11. Save as and name it (either author's name or abbreviated title)
  12. Place in the MARC Record folder
  13. Go to All Programs
  14. Find Library.Solutions
  15. Select L.S.Cataloging
  16. Type in password (silver)
  17. Instead of selecting flashlight, go to File
  18. Open
  19. From MARC record folder, select record
  20. Key in *
  21. Record should move so that you can add the 949 field information
  22. Hit the save button.
  23. Record will be added to the local database
