NHPS is committed to teaching children about healthy lifestyle choices including exercise, nutrition and social skills.
From Nutrition to Wellness: In 2006, to meet the new State and Federal requirements for a Wellness Policy and to address more health areas, the Nutrition Committee was transformed into theDistrict Wellness Committee by adding Board members, formal student members and others, and expanding its focus.
#1 Wellness Policy: In 2006, all districts nationwide were required to develop wellness policies to be submitted to their State Departments of Education. New Haven’s Policy was ranked as #1 in the State, which reflects the Physical Activity and Wellness (PAW) programs (funded through private grants), food service initiatives and a variety of health education efforts that are being employed across the District.
