Future Student Entrepreneurs from New Haven, Win Top Three Slots
in New Haven Citywide High School Business Plan Competition

Presented by the New Haven Board of Education –Career & Technology Education Services

NEW HAVEN, CT (May 23, 2007) – Jasmine Ortiz from Hill Regional Career High School; Jennifer M. Rivera; from Wilbur Cross High School; and Mathew Buono from Metropolitan Business Academy received first, second, and third place awards, respectively, today for outstanding business plans presented at the Fourth Annual New Haven High School Citywide Business Plan Competition coordinated by the New Haven Board of Education Career & Technology Education Services Program and hosted by Gateway Community College.

Impressing a panel of distinguished judges from government, business, and banking, Jasmine, walked off with $500 for her plan of a softball training program for girls (Around The Diamond); Jennifer $250 for her custom beaded jewelry (Jennifer’s Custom Beaded Jewelry) and Mathew $150 for his computer game parlor for teens ( End Zone) in prize money. They were chosen from among eight finalists. Other contestants included Paul Cantore, Ian Cordero and Daena Johnson from Hill Regional Career High School; Marquis Lee from High School In The Community and Kesjuanna Davis from James Hillhouse High school. All of these contestants received $50 for their participation.

This group of incredible, budding entrepreneurs created amazing products and are on their way to being our future business leaders of tomorrow.


Career High School’s Honors Physics Class
and the Robotics Team won 1st Place

The entry by Career High School’s Honors Physics Class and the Robotics Team
won 1st Place and $100.00 at the “Physics Day Competition” that was held last
Thursday May 24th at Lake Compounce Amusement Park.

The annual event is organized by the Connecticut Association of Physics Teachers (CAPT). This year’s task was to design and build a kinetic sculpture that would use potential energy to operate the device for at least one minute. The Career entry “Physicists” featured the animated ideas of Galileo, Newton, Einstein and Hawking. The device demonstrated, elastic potential energy, simple machines, levers, forces, rotational inertia, magnetism, gravity, sound, light, vibrations and waves. The project will be on display in Room 307 on Wednesday.
