Resource-based learning is a pre-planned learning experience, where students actively use appropriate print, nonprint, technology and human resources to solve meaningful information problems. Resource-based learning focuses on developing the student's ability to use the Media Center's resources to solve information problems that are already part of the class' study.

Collaborative planning and co-teaching are essential to ensure that the teacher's curriculum content and objectives are integrated into the information technology skill objectives. Co-teaching ultimately increases the amount of individual attention and interaction between the learner and his/her learning coaches.

Resource-based learning gives teachers more of an opportunity to address each student's individual learning goals. Accelerated students can be appropriately challenged. In this model, flexibility and the use of creative problem solving are essential. When students use information technology and multimedia to gather, organize and present "new" knowledge, students (and teachers) become more comfortable with it.

Through the use of information technology, connections can be made to the world beyond the walls of the school. Students will be more motivated to acquire the skills they need for independent, lifelong learning.
