About
New Haven Academy is a college preparatory high school. Its small size and active classrooms help students learn to think critically and deeply through writing, debating, experimentation and daily problem solving. In order to advance a grade students must complete, present and defend a series of projects and exhibitions that demonstrate their mastery of learning objectives.
New Haven Academy structures its academically rigorous education around "Facing History and Ourselves," a unique citizenship education program that encourages students to examine profound ethical questions about history, decision-making, prejudice and violence and asks them to participate in finding solutions to real-world problems.
The school shapes courses and special projects around modern and historical social issues, problems and themes. Students will examine complex questions such as: What are government and politics? How can ordinary citizens affect change? How can scientific developments of the past shape the future? How do great writers address the critical questions of their time?
New Haven Academy uses its Advisory Program to foster relationships within the school community and provide students with the support and skills necessary for their success in high school and beyond. Students receive help from their advisors to set life goals and create step-by-step plans to achieve them. In addition, the schoolÕs College Bound program prepares students for college admission with guidance on internships, job shadowing experiences, independent study opportunities at local colleges, SAT preparation and financial aid advice.
