Quality physical education is a integral part of the education process. Unique to other areas of the total school curriculum, physical education provides movement-centered and knowledge-based activities for students. The curriculum includes effective instructional strategies (for differentiated instruction and at least three of Marzano's highly effective instructional strategies) appropriate for the content grades. The focus of the New Haven physical education program is to offer activities in a safe environment which meets the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of all students. We offer a well balanced program offering diversified activities that provide students with the knowledge and skills to develop a satisfactory level of fitness, a broad spectrum of physical skills, and the knowledge necessary to use the skills to maintain fitness for a lifetime of active participation. Positive achievement in physical education will leave students with a legacy of success in physical activity and help to ensure that they will enjoy an active healthy life style.
